Anjali Farm & Lotus Moon Medicinals Our small diverse family farm is nestled on a classic 1800's Vermont hill farm with a ten acre slope above the West River in the village of South Londonderry, Vermont. Our community based farm with agritourism as its market niche in the Green Mountains is a challenge, but the rich soil, clean water and great neighbors make it all worthwhile. Our crop diversity and friendliness is our strength, we have a fantastic mix of products easily available throughout the season. We have been growing Certified Organic heirloom vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs since 1998. A small flock of galivanting chickens lay eclectic eggs and help us work the land. During the growing season, there are many special events on the farm. We also host students of all ages in both the field and our Barn Classroom. We host farm tours, special events, internships and workshops. Last season we hosted over 40 students from area grade schools on the farm.We grow 2 acres of mixed annual vegetables, herbs, several perennial crops: medicinal herbs, blueberries, raspberries, apples, pears and HOPS! There is 3,000 sq. ft. of greenhouse production that expands more than three seasons. We produce specialty food products from our produce, fruits and herbs. Anjali Farms offers direct retail sales and education about organic agriculture to the public, both local and out of state. We sell our products through the West River Farmers' Market, The Springfield CO-OP and select restaurants, such as, West Mountain Inn, The Perfect Wife Restaurant, SoLo Farm & Table, Cilantro, and The Equinox Hotel. Our goal is to raise the highest quality food in harmony with our ecosystem and offer it to our members, neighbors and visitors. See you on the farm!Peas, Emmett & Lini
Emmett the Farmer
has been working in agriculture since 1993. The first five years he worked in Farmers’ Markets, selling in New York City, then going home to Rhode Island where he created and managed the Aquidneck Growers’ Market. Later in Northern California he managed Farmers’ Markets, and finally I came to Vermont in 1997 and have been both farming and working in farmers’ market development. He was the Farmer’s Market Coordinator for the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) from 2000 to 2003 where he helped to create the state wide Vermont Farmers’ Market Assosiation(VFMA).
"While living and working
in Southern Vermont as an organic farmer and teacher, I realized sharing my knowledge and experience in
sustainable agriculture was paramount. I
did not think experiencing all the questions and answers about agriculture from
excited students on our farm would be the most inspiring lesson, but it is! Developing educational opportunities and
special events for the community, both on and off the farm, has been a crucial component
to the growth of our local food shed and who I am. During this time of unparalleled growth
in local foods, it is exciting to
see the farm become an important part of our community. Farming
has been an important part of my life and
through it I have been creating curriculums that incorporate
young students into our Vermont hill side farm operations and daily chores for more than a
decade. Anjali Farm has reached a true
level of sustainability and I have been abundantly fulfilled, I look to further
my career beyond the farm. My ability to be a leader as well as a team
player allowed me to be involved with excellent people and organizations in my
community."
